Identification

POWERED BY MERLIN

Tiny woodpecker restricted to a small area of the Andes in northern Peru. Combination of dark breast marked with white spots and heavily barred belly separate it from other piculets in the region. The male has red streaks on the forecrown. Inhabits epiphyte-laden cloud forest and often found with mixed flocks moving through the canopy. Song is a high-pitched trill.
