A medium-sized honeyeater restricted to mid-montane forest in a few isolated mountain ranges. Gray coloration with a long curved bill, heavy black streaking, diffuse brown color on the back and flanks and a pale gray bill. Doesn’t overlap with any similar species. Call, a rising and falling, slurred, piping “piiwiiiuu!” given at regular intervals. The same note can also be given as falling then rising or just rising.
