Rare hummingbird known only from French Guiana and adjacent areas of northern Brazil. Plumage is mostly dull grayish-green with a darker face and throat separated by a pale mustache stripe. It lacks the orange throat band and white tail markings of the otherwise similar Pale-tailed Barbthroat. Inhabits humid forest, especially scrubby clearings, forest edge, and along watercourses.

Naturalized: Exotic population is self-sustaining, breeding in the wild, persisting for many years, and not maintained through ongoing releases (including vagrants from Naturalized populations).
