Identification

POWERED BY MERLIN

Small plump bird with long gray legs. Pale tan below, brown above, with extensive black streaking throughout its body. Found in dry, high-elevation scrub, especially around Polylepis groves. Secretive, often staying in cover, but also likes to hop onto the tops of large rocks to sing or look around. Listen for its rising frog-like song, “grr-grrrEEE.”
