An iridescent sunbird of forest and forest edge, almost always near water. Males are distinctly bicolored: iridescent purple on their tails and heads and white on their bellies, with iridescent green highlights on the wings and orange underwing tufts. Females are more greenish-blue above with a bright white eye-line, a yellow belly, and white cheeks, throat, and chest. Distinguished from violet-backed sunbirds by its habitat, greenish wings, and iridescent female plumage. Vocalizations are not well known, but are presumably similar to those of other sunbirds.
