Legend Overview
Introduction
A colorful, medium-sized, rather plump fruit-dove. This species is a highly specialized frugivore that is widespread in the rainforests of the Indo-Pacific Region and north-eastern Australia. It can be found in several islands of Melanesia and also in parts of mainland Australia. Some populations are highly mobile, but their movement patterns are poorly understood. A strongly sexually dichromatic species, males are unmistakable, with a purple crown, a rusty hindneck, pale yellow belly and bold green flank-bars. It may sometimes be found in small groups at fruiting trees, but it is not a very gregarious species and it is more often found alone or in pairs.
