Introduction

The Brown Goshawk is a common and widespread medium-sized Accipiter in Australia, as well as scattered islands in Wallacea and Melanesia. There is a lot of plumage variation across this wide range, resulting in twelve recognized subspecies. It frequents forest and open woodlands, where it hunts a variety of vertebrate prey but especially other medium-sized birds.
