Black Inca Coeligena prunellei Scientific name definitions

Black Inca is endemic to Colombia, where it is distributed in the eastern cordillera in the departments of Boyacá, Santander and Cundinamarca, between 1200 and 2800 m. This species inhabits humid montane forests, primarily forests that are dominated by oak. It is a medium-sized hummingbird with a unique color pattern: purple black with a white patch on each side of the breast, shoulders contrasting with dark blue metallic. Black Inca currently is listed as Endangered (EN) in Colombia and globally its conservation status is rated as Vulnerable (VU), due to drastic declines of habitat in its narrow geographic range.
