Hitherto treated as conspecific with D. wilhelminae and D. hanieli (see below). Races treated by some authors as two full species, differing clearly in plumage and voice#R. Proposed race ablutum, described from Tamansari (Banyuwangi), in E Java, subsumed within nominate. Two subspecies recognized.
