Until recently#R considered conspecific with D. erythrothorax, but differs in its grey vs long white throat to upper breast (3); dull matt grey vs slightly greenish-glossed crown (1); more olive-green, less grey back to uppertail-coverts in males (less obvious in birds from Morotai) (ns[1]); slightly less bright lemon-olive lower flanks and lack of lemon-olive edging on wing-coverts (2); smaller size (effect size for bill −2.32, score 2). Monotypic.
