Introduction

Santa Marta Antpitta is confined to the endemic hotspot of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in northern Colombia, where its voice is a common sound of humid cloud, predominantly between 1600 m and 2400 m. In color, Santa Marta Antpitta is largely dark brown above, with a tawny throat and white underparts that are heavily streaked with dusky. This species is comparatively bold for an antpitta, hopping along the ground, and sometimes coming to edges to feed, especially in the early morning. Like most species of antpitta, much remains to be discovered concerning its natural history. Santa Marta Antpitta is currently considered Vulnerable, largely due to its extremely limited range and ongoing habitat threats in the area.
