Hitherto considered conspecific with L. leucocephalus and L. senex, but differs from former in its all-white underparts (this producing much more extensive white rump) (3), dark upperparts plain except for white scapular line vs with pale buffy shaft streaks and broad white tips on mantle and wing-coverts (3), and shade paler dark brown upperparts (1); differs from latter in its much purer white head and underparts (2), black vs white tail (3), and white carpal area vs dark brown, with less developed white scapulars (2). Monotypic.
