Legend Overview
Introduction
On the mainland of Middle America, the Yucatan Vireo is confined to southeast Mexico and adjacent Belize, but it is also found on a number of offshore islands, including off Belize and Honduras, and even further afield on Grand Cayman. Four subspecies are recognized reflecting the species’ partially insular distribution. The Yucatan Vireo is one of two sedentary species that form part of the Red-eyed Vireo (Vireo olivaceus) superspecies, but its plumage is obviously duller and less contrasting than other members of this grouping, although the song is similar to that of Black-whiskered Vireo (Vireo altiloquus).
