(syn. Otus Ϯ Oriental Scops Owl O. sunia) Gr. ακνημος aknēmos  without calf of the leg, thin-legged  < negative prefix α- a- ; κνημη knēmē  leg, shin; "3tes Subgenus. Acnemis.  Flügel lang. Erste Schwinge viel länger als die 10te. Unterer Theil der Fußwurzel und Zehen nackt, geschuppt.   5. Scops gymnopodus, G. Gray, Otus magicus, Müll." (Kaup 1851).  Var. Aenemis.
