Actophilornis Ϯ African Jaçana A. africanus) Gr. ακτη aktē, ακτης aktēs  river bank, beach, coastal strand; φιλος philos  lover; "The name Phyllopezus Sharpe [1896] must give way on account of Phyllopezus Peters [1877], a genus of reptiles. It may be replaced by Actophilus, from ακτη, litus, and φιλεω, amo; the type being Parra africana Gmelin." (Oberholser 1899).
