Afrocolinus

(syn. Peliperdix Ϯ Latham's Forest Francolin P. lathami) L. Afer, Afra African; Mod. L. colinus  quail (cf. genus Colinus Goldfuss, 1820, bobwhite); "On the basis of its distinct phylogenetic placement, morphology, unique forest habitat, geography and large genetic divergence, lathami should be recognized in a genus of its own and  ... will be replaced with a newly erected genus Afrocolinus gen. nov.  Afrocolinus is formed from two words, afro- meaning African and -colinus for 'quail'" (Mandiwana-Neudani 2013).
