AFROTIS

(Otididae; Ϯ Black Bustard A. afra) Anagram of specific name Otis afra Linnaeus, 1758; "AFROTIS, Pr. B. 1854.  (Otis afra, Gm.)" (G. Gray 1855); "AFROTIS G. R. Gray, 1855  F— Otis afra Linnaeus, 1758; type by original designation" (Dickinson & Remsen (eds.) 2013, 167). The Black Bustard or Black Korhaan was one of four bustards described by Linnaeus (see Otis), and the only one described from Africa. This species was subsequently named Otis atra Linnaeus 1766 (L. ater  black).
