(syn. Turdoides Ϯ Blackcap Babbler T. reinwardtii) Gr. αιπυς aipus  sheer, steep; κνημη knēmē  leg; "Sub-genus, AIPUNEMIA*.  ... Tarsi longissimi, graciles; squamæ anticæ et laterales distinctæ; digitus internus brevis. Ungues parvi, graciles, non multum curvati.  ... *Th. αιπυς altus, et κνημη tibia" (Swainson 1831).  Var. Aipenumia, Aepycnemia.
