Alcella

(syn. Aethia Ϯ Whiskered Auklet A. pygmaea) Dim. < genus Alca Linnaeus, 1758, auk; "Selecting the first species in each of the remaining twelve genera as the type we shall have to make the following changes.  CYCLORRHYNCHUS Kaup, 1829, becomes PHALERIS Temm. 1820.  PHALERIS Temm. 1820, becomes ALCELLA nom. nov.  The first species mentioned in the description of Phaleris Temm., Man. Ornith., 1820, p. cxii, is Alca psittacula Pallas, and this name replaces the later Cyclorrhynchus based upon the same species. Subgenus Phaleris of the Check-List may be replaced by Alcella 1, type Alca pygmæa Gm.  ...  1 Alca, Auk; -ella diminutive." (Stone 1907); "Alcella Stone, Auk, 24, 1907, p. 197, 198.
