(Psophodidae; Ϯ Papuan Whipbird A. viridis) Gr. ανηρ anēr, ανδρος andros  man; φοβος phobos  fear  < φεβομαι phebomai  to flee; "Androphobus Hartert & Paludan (genus novum).  Typus und einzig bekannte Art: Androphilus viridis Rothschild & Hartert. Die neue Gattung steht Androphilus Sharpe ziemlich nahe" (Hartert & Paludan 1934); coined to reflect the supposed kinship of the shy Papuan Whipbird with the genus Androphilus Sharpe, 1888, bush warbler.
