(Paradisaeidae; Ϯ Arfak Astrapia A. nigra) Gr. αστραπιος astrapios or αστραπαιος astrapaios  of lightning  < αστραπη astrapē  flash of lightning  < στεροπη steropē  lightning, glare; "97. ASTRAPIE, Astrapia.  Paradisea, Gm. Lath.  Bec glabre à la base, comprimé latéralement, étroit en dessus, pointu, entaillé et fléchi vers le bout. -- Queue très-longue, très-étagée.   Esp. Paradisea nigra, Gm. Lath." (Vieillot 1816); "Astrapia Vieillot, 1816, Analyse, p. 36. Type, by monotypy, Paradisea nigra Gmelin." (Mayr in Peters 1962, XV, 191). Cracraft 1992, concluded that this genus comprised seven species.
