Baryphonus

(syn. Momotus Ϯ Amazonian Motmot M. momota) Gr. βαρυφωνος baruphōnos  with a deep bass voice  < βαρυς barus  heavy; φωνεω phōneō  to speak; "MOMOT, Baryphonus.  Ramphastos, Linn. Gm.  Momotus, Lath.  Bec épais, convexe en dessus; mandibules à bords dentelés, et courbées en en bas vers le bout.  Esp. Momot, Buff.  ... Barryphonus [βαρυφονος, cui vox est gravis]" (Vieillot 1816).   Var. Bariphonus, Barryphonus, Pariphonus.
