Clanganas

(syn. Bucephala Ϯ Barrow's Goldeneye B. islandica) L. clangor, clangoris  resounding, clanging  < clangere  to resound (cf. specific name Anas clangula Linnaeus, 1758); anas, anatis  duck; "BARROW'S GOLDENEYE, Clanganas islandica (Gmelin)  ... its wings produce the musical whistle which is characteristic of goldeneye flight.  ... Clanganas Oberholser, new genus.  Similar to Glaucionetta Stejneger (type, Anas clangula Linnaeus)  ... Type: Anas islandica Gmelin, the only species.  Structural differences separating Barrow's from the Common [Goldeneye] are so outstanding and actual, as well as relative, that there seems to be no reason for including the two species in the same genus" (Oberholser 1974).
