L. clipeatus or clypeatus  shield-bearing, armed with a round shield  < clipeare or clypeare  to arm with a shield  < clipeus, clupeus or clypeus   round shield.
● ex “Anas latirostris major” of Gessner 1555, “Anas platyrhynchos altera sive clypeata” of Willughby 1676, “Shoveler” of Ray 1713, and Albin 1731 (see Spatula), and “Anas rostri extremo dilatato rotundato, ungue incurvo” of Linnaeus 1745, and Linnaeus 1746 (Spatula).
