COSCOROBA

(Anatidae; Ϯ Coscoroba Swan C. coscoroba) Specific name Anas coscoroba Molina, 1782; "Genera et Species typicae.  ...  b. *Coscoroba (Molina) Rchb.  candida (Anser  —us Vieill.) R.  Ic. Av. t. 106. ic. 966." (Reichenbach 1852); "Coscoroba Reichenbach, Av. Syst. Nat,., 1852 (1853) p. x. Type, by original designation and tautonymy, Anser candidus Vieillot = Anas coscoroba Molina." (Peters 1931, 1, 155). The strange, goose-like Coscoroba Swan was named for its distinctive bugling call.
