(syn. Calidris Ϯ Curlew Sandpiper C. ferruginea) French name Erolie given to the Curlew Sandpiper by Vieillot 1816 (cf. L. erro  wanderer, vagrant  < errare  to wander; Gr. λιαν lian  very much); "204. EROLIE, Erolia.  Bec arrondi à la base, plus long que la tête, sillonné en dessus, fléchi en arc, un peu obtus.  Esp. nouv. (O)   ...(O) EROLIE VARIÉE, Erolia variegata."
