Rhinoptilus Ϯ Heuglin's Courser R. cinctus) Gr. ἡμεροδρομος hēmerodromos  long-distance runner, courier  < ἡμερα hēmera  day; δρομος dromos  running  < τρεχω trekhō  to run; "Hemerodromus (Cursorius) cinctus Heugl.  ...  ich schlage hierfür den Gattungsnamen Hemerodromus (von ημεροδρομος, Schnelläufer) vor" (von Heuglin 1863).
