L. phasis avis  pheasant; “Hierophasis, or Pheasant of the Priests, as I am informed by Mr. Swinhoe that the feathers are worn by the native priestesses [on Taiwan] as decorations on state or other solemn occasions” (Elliot 1872); "Hierophasis Elliot, Monogr. Phasian., 2, 1872, text to pl. 25. Type, by monotypy, Euplocamus swinhoii Gould." (Peters 1934, II, 115).
