Megalaima

(syn. Psilopogon Ϯ Great Barbet P. virens) Gr. μεγας megas, μεγαλη megalē  great, large; λαιμοα laimos throat; "69. Bucco should be changed, as it is employed in another place, to Megalaima (1842)" (G. Gray 1842); "Megalaima G. R. Gray, Appendix to List Gen. Bds., 1842, p. 12. Type, by original designation and monotypy, Bucco grandis Gmelin = Bucco virens Boddaert." (Peters 1948, VI, 31). This genus was formerly in widespread use, but must now give way to Psilopogon.   Var. Megalaema, Megalaimus, Megaloema, Megalayma, Magalaima, Magalaema.
