MEGALAPTERYX

‡ (Emeidae; Ϯ Upland Moa M. didinus) Gr. μεγας megas, μεγαλη megalē  great; genus Apteryx Shaw, 1813, kiwi. The moas are known only from subfossil and midden remains, the identification and relationships of which still puzzle taxonomists. The birds of this genus were originally considered to be kiwis Apterygidae.
