Falco Ϯ New Zealand Falcon F. novaezeelandiae) Gr. νησος nēsos  island (= New Zealand); ἱεραξ hierax, ἱερακος hierakos  hawk; "Harpe Bonaparte [1855] is preoccupied in ichthyology by Harpe Lacépède [1802].  Harpa Sharpe [1874], for the same group, is also untenable on account of Harpa Lamarck [1799], a genus of Mollusca.  As no other name is available, there may be proposed Nesierax, from νησος, insula, and ἱεραξ, accipiter, with Falco novæ-zealandiæ Gmelin as type."
