(syn. Zenaida Ϯ Galápagos Dove Z. galapagoensis) Gr. νησος nēsos  island (= Galápagos Is.); πελεια peleia  dove; "Nesopelia n. g. (Zenaida gallapagensis Gould, Bp.), sp.minor, rostro longiore, paullum deflexo, tenui; ala longa pennis cubiti brevibus (anticæ mediam alam vix excedunt!); cauda brevi, rotundata; pedibus fortibus. Color fuscescens, alis scapulisque longit. nigro alboque variis. A Zenaidis Columbisque reliquis omnibus bene distincta.  (Nησος, insula)." (Sundevall 1873); "Nesopelia Sundevall, Met. Nat. Av. Disp.
