Odurella

(syn. Gallinago Ϯ Tropical Snipe G. paraguaiae) Dim. < genus Odura Meves, 1859, snipe; "Two South American species are somewhat aberrant and might be given subgeneric rank  ...  The other, brasiliensis Swainson, has the wing under 120 mm., but little corresponding decrease in bill and metatarsus. The bill is generally less than twice the length of the metatarsus— rarely more, though more than half the wing. I propose that this species be subgenerically distinguished by the new name of ODURELLA." (Mathews 1913); "Odurella Mathews, Bds. Austr., 3, 1913, p. 294. Type, by original designation, Scolopax brasiliensis Swainson = Scolopax paraguaiae Vieillot." (Peters 1934, II, 274) (see Macrodura).
