Parascolopax

(syn. Scolopax Ϯ Javan Woodcock S. saturata) Gr. παρα para  near; genus Scolopax Linnaeus, 1785, woodcock; "The species S. saturata Hodgson — with which S. rosenbergi Schlegel, quite wrongly, has been synonymised — is quite as distinctive as regards coloration, and though the structural characters are typically rusticoline, the proportions differ  ...  To fix these differences, which coincide with a change in coloration, I propose the new genus-name PARASCOLOPAX, with S. saturata Hodgson as type." (Mathews 1913).
