Plattnäbb.  ...  *) Hab gen fere Tryngæ, sed characteribus genericis bene distinctis, unde auctoribus modo ad Tringas modo ad Numenio relatus est; ob rostrum ejus depressum a natura heic locum ei assignatum esse videtur.  Nom. gener. a græcis vocis πλατυς depressus et ῥαμφος rostrum, derivatum est" (Billberg 1828).
