Plesialcyon

(syn. Halcyon Ϯ White-breasted Kingfisher H. smyrnensis) Gr. πλησιος plēsios  near, close to  < πελας pelas  near  < πελαζω pelazō  to bring near; genus Halcyon Swainson, 1821, kingfisher; "This group was called Entomobia by Cabanis and Heine [1860], that name being proposed for Entomothera as used by Reichenbach [1851] but not Entomothera of Horsfield [1822]. I note, however, that Entomobia is preoccupied by A. G. Costa, 1846, so that a new name is necessary for this well-marked genus.  I herewith propose PLESIALCYON gen. nov. and designate Alcedo smyrnensis Linné as type." (Mathews 1918).
