(syn. Spizaetus Ϯ Ornate Hawk Eagle S. ornatus) L. plumipes, plumipedis  feather-footed  < pluma  plume; pes, pedis  foot  < Gr. πους pous, ποδος podos  foot; "(a.) Head crested.  Tarsi feathered.   35. PLUMIPEDA. Wings shorter than the tail. Crest occipital and pendent.  Falco superbus" (Fleming 1822).
