(Monarchidae; Ϯ Tahiti Monarch P. nigra) Specific name Muscicapa pomarea Garnot, 1828. "Pomarea, Bp., en diffère à peine, contenant des Monarcha presque aussi changeants, à pattes plus allongées que chez les typiques, telles que Muscicapa nigra, Sparrmann, etc." (Bonaparte 1854). The tautonymic Maupiti Monarch P. pomarea is now extinct, but closely linked to a suite of similar birds confined to the Marquesas and Society Is.
