PYRGILAUDA

(Passeridae; Ϯ Small Snowfinch P. davidiana) Portmanteau of genera Pyrgita Cuvier 1817, sparrow, and Alauda Linnaeus, 1758, lark; "GENUS PYRGILAUDA.  Rostrum breve, basi depressum, apice conicum, mandibulis æqualibus, nares plumis basilibus opertæ. Tarsi, digiti et ungues breves. Alæ elongatæ. Cauda mediocris emarginata" (J. Verreaux 1871). The terrestrial Small or Père David’s Snowfinch habitually nests in the burrows of small rodents.
