L. salictarius or salicarius  of willows  < salix, salicis  willow-tree.
● The Motacilla salicaria of Linnaeus, 1766, now treated as unidentifiable, was linked with the following species by earlier authors; Acrocephalus schoenobaenus (ex "Roussette" of Brisson 1760, and “Sedge-Warbler” of Latham 1783), Acrocephalus scirpaceus (ex “Salicaria” of Gessner 1555), Acrocephalus paludicola, Acrocephalus palustrisHippolais icterina, Iduna caligata, Sylvia borin (ex “Salicaria” of Gessner 1555, and "Petite Fauvette" of Brisson 1760).
