(Thraupidae; Ϯ Cinnamon Tanager S. ruficapillus capistrata) Late L. schistus  slate  < L. lapis schistos  fissile stone  < Gr. σχιστος skhistos  cloven  < σχιζω skhizō  to split; Gr. χλαμυς khlamus, χλαμυδος khlamudos  mantle, cloak. Reichenbach's 1850, plate LXXVII, labelled Passerinae: Fringillinae Tanagrinae, shows the distinctive small mask of the Cinnamon Tanager. "Gen. SCHISTOCHLAMYS Reichb. 1850. Graumantel.  Diucopis (!)
