(Leiothrichidae; Ϯ Hoary-throated Barwing S. nipalensis) Nepalese name Sibya for the Rufous Sibia; "1st. Species, CINCLOSOMA? NIPALENSIS Nobis,  SIBIA? NIPALENSIS Nobis.  ...  N.B. In defining the Genus Sibia (Nobis) I have enumerated the above as one of the species. It has, though in a less degree, the brushed tongue of that genus: its wings are rather feebler: and its bill is more straight" (Hodgson 1836); "Genus - new, Sibia nobisSibya of the Nipalese.  ...  What shall we say to a Meruline form compounded of the bill and tongue of Chloropsis, the nares of Cinnyris, and the wings, tail, and feet of Cinclosoma? for such is the general, though not the precisely accurate, indication of the form I am about to describe.  ...  Species 1st. Pieaoïdes [sic]. Pie-like Sibia mihi.  ...  Species 2nd. Nigriceps. Black-capt Sibia mihi.  ...  3rd. Species. Nipalensis, nobis. Described already as a Cinclosoma, and forming a singular link of connexion between the Cinclosomæ and the Sibiæ" (Hodgson 1839 (submitted 1836)); "Sibia Hodgson, 1836 (post June), Asiat. Res., 19, p. 145. Type, by monotypy, Cinclosoma? nipalense Hodgson." (Deignan in Peters 1964, X, 390). Thanks to delayed publication Hodgson's Sibia has to be allocated to a barwing rather than to the true sibias Heterophasia.
Synon. Ixos.
