Smithaetus

(syn. Circaetus Ϯ Black-breasted Snake Eagle C. pectoralis) Sir Andrew Smith (1797-1872) Scottish zoologist, ethnologist, explorer in South Africa, first Superintendent of Cape Town Mus. 1825; Gr. αετος aetos  eagle; "C. pectoralis A. Smith differs so much in plumage characters that I propose to place it in a new subgenus under the name of SMITHAETUS" (A. Roberts 1922) (see Melanaetus).
