(Columbidae; Ϯ Spotted Dove S. chinensis) Gr. σπιλος spilos  spot; πελεια peleia  dove; "Spilopelia n. g.  (C. chinensis L., et C. suratensis Gm; tigrina Temm.) etiam sp. Turturis rec., sed ala brevi, aliter formata; cauda longiore, subgradata; colore maculato; plumis cervicis cordatis (s. bifidis), nigris apicibus albis, torquem alboguttatum formantibus, bene distinctæ et inter Columbas maxime peculiares" (Sundevall 1873).
