(Bonaparte 1838); “Starnoenas is a compound word from the Italian Starna, grey partridge, and Œnas” (Salvadori 1893); "Starnœnas Bonaparte, Geog. and Comp. List, 1838, p. 41. Type, by monotypy, Columba cyanocephala Linné." (Peters 1937, III, 138).
