(syn. Bubo Ϯ Rock Eagle Owl B. bengalensis) Etymology not given; doubtless a Nepalese onomatopoeia for an owl (see Mesomorpha); "Genus URRUA, nob.  ...  Size considerable. Habits sub-diurnal. Dwells frequently in holes on steep bank-sides.   Type, Urrua Cavearea, nob." (Hodgson 1837).
