Columbas ad Passeres nec ad Gallinas pertinere, docet monogamia, osculatio, incubatus alternus, nutritio pulli, Ova pauca, nidificatio, locus in altis." (Linnaeus 1758); "Columba Linné, Syst. Nat., ed. 10, 1, 1758, p. 162. Type, by subsequent designation, Columba oenas Linné. (Vigors, 1825.)" (Peters 1937, III, 56). Linnaeus's Columba comprised twenty-two species (C. Oenas, C. gutturosa, C. cucullata, C. Turbita, C. tremula, C. tabellaria, C. montana, C. asiatica, C. guinea, C. hispanica, C. Palumbus, C. cyanocephala, C. leucocephala, C. leucoptera, C. nicobarica, C. macroura, C. sinica, C. indica, C. hispida, C. Turtur, C. risoria, C. passerina).

GALLICOLUMBA

(Columbidae; Ϯ Luzon Bleeding-heart G. luzonica) Portmanteau of genera Gallus Brisson, 1760, fowl, and Columba Linnaeus, 1758, pigeon; "Die Gattung Hühnertaube, Gallicolumba s. Columbi-Gallina: Lauf länger, dicker, Schnabel schlank, biegsam; leben gesellig und suchen die Nahrung am Boden wie die Hühner, sind auch meist so groß.   Die blutfleckige Taube, Gallicolumba cruenta (Taf. 67 Fig. 14), auf den Philippinen, zeichnet sich vorzüglich durch einen blutfarbigen Fleck auf der Brust aus." (Heck 1849); "Gallicolumba Heck, Bilder-Atlas zum Conversations-Lexikon, 1, 1849, p. 434. Type, by monotypy, Gallicolumba cruenta [(Gmelin)] = Columba luzonica Scopoli." (Peters 1937, III, 133).

Terricolumba

(syn. Alopecoenas Ϯ Polynesian Ground Dove A. erythropterus) L. terra  ground; columba  pigeon; "Le nom, longtemps usité, de Phlogœnas se trouve préoccupé par Gallicolumba Heck 1849, dont luzonica est aussi le type. Je n'ai pu trouver un autre nom générique existant applicable au second groupe de ces Colombes terrestres. Je propose donc de les appeler: Terricolumba genus novum, dont l'espèce type désignée est erythroptera (Gmelin)" (Hachisuka 1931) (OD per Laurent Raty).
