American Oystercatcher (Pilpilen); Aconcagua river mouth. AMERICAN OYSTER CATCHER (PILPILÉN) The American oystercatcher (Haematopus palliatus), known in Spanish as Ostrero Americano Común, and in Chile as Pilpilén, ranges along the Atlantic coast from New England through the Gulf coast, to Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina. It is found also in the Pacific coast from California, Mexico, Central America, to Peru and Chile. This picture was taken on the beach of Concón, near the mouth of the Aconcagua River, Chile. Elevation: 33 m. Date added to IBC: February 19, 2018.
