Media notes
Birds soaring over low coastal hills. Four or five total birds spotted, too high to hear any calls. One pictured here is.....the most clear photo I could get.We spotted several birds flying high over a small clearing. The foliage was dense and it was difficult to see them until they suddenly popped into view. Camera equipment was only a small point-and-shoot. The bars on the underside were prominent, and many. Would appreciate a confirmation of species. According to the bird book, the only other possibilities are an osprey or New Guinea Harpy Eagle. This bird was not hunting over the water, so I rule out an osprey. The photos of a New Guinea Harpy Eagle I have located look very good for a match but the descriptions all state this bird is uncommon. Sorry the photo quality is not more distinguishing of this magnificent creature. Elevation: 35 m. Date added to IBC: June 21, 2016.
