Great Blue Heron resting on a rock at the Capilano River. Ardea herodias fannini is found in the summer months along the Northwest coast of North America from Alaska to Washington State. They nest in trees between May and July. There is a fairly large population that nest in the woods of Vancouver's Stanley Park. In winter, they usually flight south through Florida, Mexico, and the Caribbean to South America. This bird, a rather rare occurrence in Vancouver during winter, was photographed in December 2017, at the Capilano River, North Vancouver, BC. IBC scientific name: Ardea herodias fannini. Elevation: 44 m. Date added to IBC: February 8, 2018.
